Description

The Fortinet FortiSwitch-348G-FPOE is a Layer 2/3 switch with FortiGate switch-controller compatibility and 802.3bt PoE support. It provides 24 × 2.5 GE RJ45 ports, 24 × 1 GE RJ45 ports and four 10 GE SFP+ uplinks. MACSec encryption helps secure Ethernet traffic, while the switch can deliver up to 1,560 W of PoE across all 48 access ports.

  • 48 PoE Access Ports in a 1 RU Form Factor: All 48 RJ45 ports support PoE Type 4 (90 W), Type 3 (PoE++/bt), PoE+ (at) and PoE (af), covering the 24 × 2.5 GE and 24 × 1 GE access ports.

  • Up to 1,560 W PoE Capacity: The switch provides a 1,560 W PoE budget when both AC inputs are used, or up to 780 W with a single AC input.

  • 4 × 10 GE SFP+/SFP Uplinks: Four dedicated 10 GE SFP+ uplink ports support 10 GE SFP+ transceivers as well as 1 GE SFP transceivers, providing flexibility for different network connections.

  • MACSec Encryption: IEEE 802.1AE-based MACSec provides Layer 2 encryption to help protect Ethernet traffic against interception while maintaining data confidentiality and integrity.

  • 248 Gbps Switching Capacity: Wire-speed Layer 2/3 switching delivers up to 248 Gbps of switching capacity and 369 Mpps forwarding performance, with sub-microsecond latency.

  • Redundant AC Power and PoE Load Sharing: Dual AC inputs provide power redundancy and allow the available PoE capacity to be shared across the power supplies, helping maintain network connectivity and connected powered devices.

Security, Performance and Manageability

The FortiSwitch enterprise campus family combines network security, high-performance switching and centralised management for campus environments where visibility and control are important.

As campus networks evolve to support new technologies and changing business requirements, the FortiSwitch architecture provides network administrators with greater visibility, control and management capabilities. Its scalable design, operational flexibility and simplified administration support secure campus deployments across different network sizes and requirements.

Secure Networking with FortiLink

FortiLink is Fortinet’s proprietary management protocol for integrating FortiGate Next-Generation Firewalls with FortiSwitch Ethernet switches. With FortiLink, the FortiSwitch operates as an extension of the FortiGate, enabling administrators to manage network security and access-layer switching from a central interface.

Built-In Network Access Control

FortiLink integration provides basic Network Access Control (NAC) capabilities without additional licensing costs. It can identify and profile connecting devices, support secure onboarding, and provide visibility across the network. FortiLink NAC also enables automated segmentation and microsegmentation for IoT devices, quarantine of potentially compromised endpoints, and virtual patching to help mitigate security threats.

Automated Segmentation and Policy Enforcement

Managing port-level security and segmentation across a large campus network can require considerable manual configuration and ongoing administration. FortiLink automates dynamic segmentation within the FortiSwitch campus architecture, allowing IT teams to manage traffic between network segments and limit the potential spread of threats.

Automated segmentation also streamlines policy application, while NGFW-level policies provide granular traffic controls and support zero-trust access for users and connected devices.

Identity-Based Access Control and Policy Enforcement

FortiLink automation can use identity information to apply role-based access policies. This capability can work with Fortinet Identity Access Management (IAM) as well as supported third-party identity providers, allowing administrators to define access and security policies according to user or device roles.

Secure Access Service Edge (SASE)

The FortiSwitch enterprise architecture provides a foundation for Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE). This gives organisations flexibility in implementing the appropriate security controls and access policies at the network edge.

Simplified Network Operations

Deploying and maintaining an Ethernet switching infrastructure can involve extensive configuration and administration. FortiSwitch supports zero-touch deployment to help simplify secure installation and management.

Whether operating in standalone or FortiLink mode, automation and orchestration provide streamlined workflows and centralised visibility for provisioning, managing and optimising campus networks. Management is available through FortiCloud as well as on-premises deployment options.

Centralised management brings LAN and security functions into a unified view, helping maintain consistent administration across the network. This can simplify configuration, optimisation and troubleshooting while helping reduce the time required to resolve network and security issues.

FortiSwitch 348G-FPOE Management Options

Scalable and Flexible Campus Networking

The FortiSwitch campus architecture is designed to scale with modern campus network requirements while maintaining integrated security capabilities. Models supporting up to 48 ports in a compact 1 RU form factor provide the port density and performance needed for a range of campus deployments.

Reduce Network Bottlenecks

Dedicated SFP+ and SFP uplinks support speeds of up to 10 GE, providing additional network capacity between the switch and upstream infrastructure. A range of compatible transceivers allows administrators to select the appropriate media for different network requirements.

Next-Generation Power Over Ethernet

FortiSwitch models support PoE+ across the range, while selected models also provide 90 W 802.3bt PoE. These capabilities allow the switch to deliver and manage power for connected devices such as wireless access points, cameras and sensors, reducing the need for separate power infrastructure.
